Last week, the Alberta Labour Relations Board published their first new applications report of 2025. In it was an application for union certification.

Local 1675 of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America—which represents drywall, acoustic, lathing, and insulation workers—filed the application on 29 July 2025.

In it, they say that they are trying to unionize workers at Comex Interior Drywall Ltd. Specifically, they want to organize all of Comex’s general construction workers, other than carpenters.

Based out of Airdrie, Comex offers interior drywall for commercial and residential projects.

According to the report, this certification, if it is successful, would apply to 7 workers.
